THE NEW 20S – JULY/AUGUST 2020 ISSUE

"Corona has ruined everything for me." That's a sentence many of us have probably thought. And yes, due to the Corona crisis, some wishes and dreams unfortunately had to be put on hold for the time being or were discarded altogether. The time certainly hasn't been easy for any of us, but it's worth emphasising again and again: somehow you just have to get through it, make the best of it and stick to the rules and recommendations to get through this phase as quickly as possible. The Sprachrohr editorial team has also been busy this semester, because despite Corona, the urge to write was certainly not eliminated. And of course our current main topic should fit the current situation, although it was also important to us that the issue isn't just filled with Covid-19, because we're reading about that enough anyway. And besides, we shouldn't get too fixated on the pandemic; "Goals, wishes, dreams" contains so many wonderful and individual topics that we can identify with.
Because we've all already grappled with the future and the tangible pressure that comes with it, and we actually do so throughout our entire lives.
You ask yourself questions like, "how realistic is my own vision of the future?" and "how do I deal with the frustration when
my goals fail?". But why does reality actually play such a big role when it comes to our goals and dreams for the future? How is our present self supposed to judge whether our own wishes for a year, five years or ten years from now are realistic? The world is in constant change, the future and thus what is all possible is constantly changing. And that's a good thing.
The most important thing is not to change your goals for others and not to overthink your dreams just because they're too big for someone else's imagination. On top of that, no one should have to justify their wishes. No matter what happens next, just let the new decade come to you, let go of the thought of how high the expectations were and how terrible it is to be disappointed.
Dare to discard goals, dream anew and have big wishes.
This semester also made a small dream come true for us two: taking over the editorial leadership. In doing so, the help from our previous editor-in-chief Sarah was invaluable. At this point, we'd also like to thank our entire Sprachrohr team – without your creativity, your commitment and your help, this issue would have been only half as interesting and certainly far less beautiful.
