Who are you and what do you do?

We are the Würzburg Studipodcast 970.wav and publish podcast episodes and audio columns on student, local and other exciting topics.

How often do you publish?

We currently don't have a fixed publication rhythm, as it always depends on the creative input of the team and the complexity of current topics how quickly we can produce an episode. On average, however, two episodes are published per month during lecture time.

What are your contents or topics?

Anything that could interest students or people our age – we don't want to restrict ourselves to certain subject areas. Past episodes have covered topics such as moving house, the World Cup in Qatar, climate activism, body hair and racism in Germany.

What is the internal structure of the university podcast? How many of you are on the team? Who does what?

We currently have approximately 15 people on the team, all of whom are active to varying degrees. Our editorial board, which usually consists of two people, takes care of regular meetings, the broadcast schedule and other organisational tasks. The remaining team members can also take care of organisational matters and activities such as an Advent calendar on Instagram – and of course prepare episodes, present and edit them.

How do you come up with your topics and what does the research look like?

The topics are usually suggested by the presenters of the respective episode themselves, which are then discussed in the meetings and the presenters receive feedback. They then take care of the preparation and record the episode independently.

Do you often invite interview partners or "celebrities" from Uni Würzburg or students?

Yes, we usually make sure to have expert voices on the respective topics in the episodes. These can be lecturers and other public figures or also students who give us answers as part of surveys.

What goes into a podcast production?

After a broadcast topic is proposed and approved in our meeting, preparation follows. Usually two presenters come together for this, they conduct research and contact experts. Then the episode is recorded, either the presenters speak freely with bullet points or they write a script for it. Most presenters record at home with a mobile phone microphone or their own microphone if available. After that, the episode is edited and interviews, survey clips or similar are inserted – this task is sometimes delegated to other team members. Finally, the episode is uploaded and promoted on Instagram.

How long is an episode?

The average length of an episode is between 20 and 30 minutes, but if it suits, it can also be more detailed or more compact.

Have you had any contact with satirical knowledge transfer or do you have anything planned in that direction?

In general, we haven't addressed the topic yet, but of course it happens that presenters throw in a joke here and there in conversations about certain topics. 😉

How do you want to develop in the future?

We want to continue to provide a platform for anyone who wants to try themselves out in the podcast field, regardless of what tasks are involved.

Is there anything else you'd like to tell us about yourselves?

Follow us on Instagram and Spotify and feel free to listen to our episodes! 😀

Are you looking for new team members?

We're always happy to have new people who want to join us! If you're interested, follow us on Instagram and keep an eye on our stories at the start of the semester – we always share information there about where and when our open meetings take place.
