Describing a typical "day in the life" of a Biomedicine student is not so easy. The timetable is so varied that sometimes you don't even know exactly which day of the week it is. And that's without even taking into account the differences between individual semesters. But one thing is clear: for Biomedicine students, the word "boredom" no longer exists in their vocabulary.
8:00 – For most Biomedicine students, the day begins with a lecture. Depending on the semester, this could be inorganic chemistry in the first, physiology in the third, or pharmacology in the fifth semester. All areas of medical and natural science fundamentals are covered, starting with the structural formula of ATP, through the microscopic process of muscle contraction, to the identification of the gluteus maximus.
10:00 – After the first lecture, the first change of location often follows. As a Biomed student, you're out and about a lot: sometimes from UKW to Hubland, sometimes to Röntgenring or even to Psychiatry. In addition to specialist knowledge, you quickly gain good local knowledge.
12:00 – If the timetable allows, you head to one of the numerous canteens at midday to recharge your batteries for the rest of the day. With less luck, there's only time for a quick roll in the cafeteria or a pizza to go before moving on to the next event.
13:30 – Depending on the semester, you spend the afternoon in Physics, Anatomy, Physiology or Biochemistry practicals and learn about the structure, function and molecular basis of the human body. Especially in Physiology practicals, you often have to serve as a guinea pig yourself and test, amongst other things, your heart rate, reflexes or blood type.
17:00 – After a long day full of lectures, practicals and a little world tour through Würzburg, the well-deserved evening begins. At least when there are no exams coming up or protocols to be submitted. During exam periods, you often find yourself back in the library for an evening study session.
19:00 – If the day allows, the evening winds down in a relaxed atmosphere: at a Faculty Student Representation meeting, a regular table, a barbecue or the traditional lantern walk. Because despite the demanding course of study, community life in the Biomedicine degree programme is not neglected.
On a day in the life of a Biomedicine student, you find yourself somewhere between natural science and medicine, so there's always something to do and above all plenty of new things to explore.
