A day in the life of a psychology student

Wednesday.

My typical Wednesday begins at 8 o'clock with the reading course in developmental psychology. Actually. In reality, I rely on the uploaded slide sets and start the day a bit later. At 10 o'clock I go to the bonus seminar in clinical psychology, which attracts us with a grade bonus of 0.3 points for the exam. Given the unfortunately increasing grade pressure during studies, this method works quite well. Today we learn about new research approaches in environmental psychology. After that, we go to the canteen in a small group for a sweet potato hotpot and a game of kniffel. Satisfied and defeated, we then attend the clinical psychology lecture. It covers disorder presentations, diagnosis and therapeutic approaches — finally the content that many have been waiting for, after statistics dominated the timetable and our lives for far too long.
After a coffee from the machine, the empirical practical begins. We develop a really cool experiment based on our own hypotheses and gather creative ideas for our results poster. In the evening at the Student Subject Initiative, we exchange ideas, plan activities like wine tastings and psychology parties, and discuss, for example, the far too high demands of the bonus seminars.

Overall, psychology is a broad-based degree programme that, especially in Würzburg, has a strong natural science focus with subjects such as neuroanatomy, biopsychology, physiology and pharmacology. We learn a lot about the human body, our behaviour and cognitive processes. In doing so, we take the step away from ubiquitous lay psychology towards empirical natural science (even though many don't believe that we actually do a Bachelor of Science and don't just sit in a circle😉)
