Everyone knows them – everyone loves them: Erasmus-Parties at Club Ludwig! But have you ever asked yourself who organises those parties? For sure you did – and here comes the long expected answer!
Who we are The "Würzburg International Network" (WIN) is one of the departments of the student representation of Würzburg University. We are a group of students of Würzburg University who have one common goal, that is to help international students make the most of their exchange experience in Würzburg! All of us agree on the fact that Würzburg is actually a really nice place to be and that there are some things in and around Würzburg which one really should not miss during their stay here.
What unites us also is that we all love meeting new people from around the globe and learning about different cultures. Some of us have already been on exchange somewhere, others are still preparing to go on their exchange, and others are part of WIN just because they enjoy the good company and want to meet new people.
Sounds good so far, the attentive reader might think now, but now I still don't know what WIN actually is all about!
Well, here we go.

What we do As introduced above, WIN has only one goal. That is, actually two: First of all, help Antonia Kuhn all of the international students to have as much fun as possible during their exchange experience here in Würzburg. And secondly, equally important, we of course want to have fun as well! Würzburg University hosts about 2,600 international students from all over the world per semester, so there are lots of people to be taken care of! We organise up to 15 events per semester, including two Erasmus-Parties, several day trips and one weekend trip. The next weekend trip which we organise will go to Salzburg, and let me assure you – it will be fun! For the Bavarian culture part, we organise one beer or wine tasting per semester, in which we make our way through several different sorts of wine or beer and enjoy Bavarian drinking culture at its best! Also, we usually organise one dinner together per semester. The most popular activity so far has definitely been the walk through the wine yards, which we organise at the beginning of each semester!
Lots of people only know about Bavaria because of our beer festivals, so of course we also visit one together! Did you know that there is not only Oktoberfest in autumn, but that there are beer festivals all around Germany throughout the whole time from spring to autumn? Actually, the smaller Volksfests are very often also the nicer ones because they are way cosier, more authentic, and also far less hectic than the big and famous Oktoberfest. However, whether Oktoberfest or a smaller beer festival – of course we also cover this big (and for some people essential) part of Bavarian culture and visit one beer festival together. So keep your Lederhosen close because you will need them!
Join in! For everyone who is now convinced that WIN stuff is really fun stuff, you are very welcome to join one of our next events! The first event in the starting summer semester will be a day trip to Bamberg on 23rd April 2017. You can find more information on all our events and activities if you join our group on Facebook – just search for Erasmus Würzburg International Network.
In case you don't only think that what we do is fun but you also want to get involved in the organisation of the events, you are very welcome to join our first meeting of the new semester on 26th April 2017 in the ESG building. We meet there at 8 pm every second Wednesday to discuss and plan the upcoming events – new people and ideas are always welcome!
We are looking forward to meeting you and wish everyone a great semester as well as a great stay for the international students! For contact just write to the admins of our Facebook group or directly to international.network@uni-wuerzburg.de
