Night Flea Market: Winter Edition

The Faculty Student Representation of the Faculty of Human Sciences Würzburg invited students last weekend to the winter edition of the popular night flea market.

Many could hardly believe where all the students had suddenly come from. "Normally nobody dares to leave the library so shortly before exams," joked one fellow student to another. Yet it was precisely because of the exam period that they all found themselves at the Studentenhaus of Universität Würzburg on Sunday afternoon. Sometimes you just need a little distraction from all the studying, and there was plenty of it here. Up to thirty different exhibitors took the opportunity and displayed their belongings in the upper storeys from late afternoon into the early evening hours. Alongside the well-known classics such as clothes, DVDs and other odds and ends, you could also find the odd piece of jewellery. So many were able to add one or another long-lost hit to their record collection, and all at a bargain price too.
However, anyone who had had enough of extensive haggling with the traders in the crowded corridors only had to follow their nose. The fresh scent of a familiar speciality had spread throughout the building to lure all the weak-willed down to the lower floors. Here the Faculty Student Representation was busy making a mess and baking, as the food programme had once again been adapted to the temperatures prevailing outside. Vegan waffles with various toppings were meant to whet the appetite of visitors this time and invite them to linger for a while, and indeed they did so with … complete success!
And then that! Out of all the hustle and bustle came a distinctive, husky voice that lured all the curious to the last station of the evening. In the Kellerperle, the passionate acoustic duo Phillip Bohn (percussion) and Illias Zirk (guitar + vocals) created a cosy living room atmosphere in 1980s style. The two of them thus interpreted well-known classics from pop/rock history, from Pink Floyd via Eurythmics to Michael Jackson. Simply cosy.
For all those who are now annoyed at not having been there – no problem. The next night flea market in the summer edition is expected to take place again in mid/late summer semester 2020. To stay up to date, simply follow Sprachrohr on Instagram or check our blog regularly.
