The sun is shining, and in Würzburg city centre people are queuing outside CiCo Gelateria. Summer is not only just around the corner, it's already here. This weekend, temperatures in Würzburg climbed above 30 degrees, and after a rainy week and long Catholic days, people are finally heading outdoors again. And for getting out and about, Würzburg has more than enough reasons to offer this summer. Between vineyards, marketplace and Main meadows, there is a varied (cultural) programme. So you don't miss anything, we've put together the most important events for you.

A summer guide:

Würzburg Wine Village (29.05. – 07.06.): Right in the middle of the marketplace, the city centre transforms once again into a meeting point for wine lovers. At the Würzburg Wine Village, local restaurateurs and vintners pour over 100 different Franconian wines. Our tip: On 1 June there's a student evening. Here you can taste your way through various wines at a lower cost.

Mozartfest Würzburg (29.05. – 28.06.): Classical music fans, pay attention! The Mozartfest Würzburg is one of the oldest and most prestigious classical music festivals in Germany and dedicates itself with around 90 concerts to the works of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

Flea market on the Main meadows (06.06.): Over 300 stalls invite you to browse on the Main meadows. From clothing to genuine curiosities, you're guaranteed to discover a treasure or two here.

Umsonst & Draussen Festival (18.06. – 21.06.): Over four days the music and culture festival "Umsonst & Draussen" takes place and lives up to its name: admission is free and the fun takes place outdoors on the Talavera Main meadows.

"Campuslichter" summer festival of Uni Würzburg (25.06.):The Student representation of Universität Würzburg invites you again to their summer festival. At Campus Hubland South you can expect numerous live bands, drinks and lots of colourful lights. This year there's even a World Cup public viewing here.

Festungsflimmern (25.06. – 11.07.): On the Neutorwiese at Festung Marienberg, Würzburg's open-air cinema "Festungsflimmern" takes place for 16 days every summer, as it does each year. If you don't want to miss this year's cinema hits like Wuthering Heights, Marty Supreme, Michael or The Devil Wears Prada 2 you should sort out your tickets quickly.

Hofgarten Wine Festival (26.06. – 05.07.): Accompanied by a balanced music programme and regional food, the Hofgarten Wine Festival takes place in the Residenz garden and invites you to taste wines from the Hofkeller.

Kiliani Folk Festival (03.07. – 19.07.): The Kiliani is Lower Franconia's largest folk festival and for many Würzburgers it's simply part of summer. Alongside fairground rides and festival tent, the Talavera site awaits with plenty of folk festival atmosphere.

Wine on the Stone (09.07. – 26.07.): Between the Würzburg vineyards, "Wine on the Stone" combines live concerts with regional wine and one of the most beautiful views over the city. A summer classic for all those who love music and wine equally.

Würzburg Harbour Summer (24.07. – 09.08.): Würzburg's Harbour Summer brings international cultural programming to the Old Harbour every year. The festival is particularly known for its floating stage directly on the water, offering a unique backdrop for the performances.

Whether wine festivals, open-air cinema or festivals, Würzburg has plenty to offer again this summer. However, not every day needs to be a big celebration. Würzburg summer is made up of much more than that: it's the balmy summer evenings with a card game by the Main, eating ice cream with friends or a long walk through the vineyards. The most important thing is and remains to enjoy the beautiful weather and time with your loved ones, or sometimes alone.
