Who we are
We are the people who actively work with and for Student Staff in the Department of Student Staff, answer questions, seek solutions and mediate between parties.
Until July 2022, the department was still known as the "Department for Student Staff Matters". After we had searched for a while for a good (catchy) name for the department, the name "Department of Student Staff" somehow caught on – and stuck. It is shorter and more memorable than the previous name, without being unnecessarily convoluted. In terms of content, nothing has changed in our work – except of course that we become richer in ideas and experience day by day!
If you have any questions about your Student Staff job and any other departmental matters, please always feel free to contact us by email at stuv-hiwis@uni-wuerzburg.de!
This is us

Freya Mader
Department Head · HiWis
Field of study: Computer Science, at Uni Würzburg since 2021
Student Staff position: IT Support (Computing Centre)
My motivation: I want to advocate for an improvement in working conditions for all Student Staff. Nothing runs at the university without us, we are present in all areas and substantially support research and administration, so it is time that we are paid fairly for it!

Yannik Bauer
Department member · HiWis · Department leadership 2023-24
Field of study: changing ;) – at Uni Würzburg since 2020
Student Staff position: former IT Support (Computing Centre)
My motivation: Student Staff are assistants, not serfs. Without the large number of student assistants at the chairs, in administration and in university service facilities, little would function at the university. My wish is that the dual burden on Student Staff is respected and the sometimes high work performance is appropriately recognised. That is why I am committed to the Student Staff Department.

Johannes Kirchhoff
Department member · HiWis · Department head until 2023
Field of study: Socio-Scientific Sustainability Research (previously: Political and Social Studies, Geography), at Uni Würzburg since 2018
Student Staff position: Dean's Office of the Faculty of Human Sciences
My motivation: Würzburg ranks very poorly in the nationwide comparison when it comes to Student Staff remuneration. Moreover, working conditions are unclear in many places, there are no fixed points of contact, and the group of student staff is not politically represented at all in relation to the employer. This needs to change, and that is why I am committed to the Student Staff Department.
Former department staff members
We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Sarah Heider for her long-standing and sustained commitment.
Support wanted
Would you like to get actively involved with and for Student Staff? Get in touch with us! We're still looking for committed support.
I want to be actively involvedStudent Staff regular table
We regularly invite you, the Student Staff at JMU, cordially to the Student Staff regular table – for example for shared pizza eating at (or depending on weather conditions also in) the Studentenhaus (Emil-Hilb-Weg 24, Campus Hubland Nord).
In a relaxed atmosphere, we would like to get to know you and above all give you and us (because we are also Student Staff!) the opportunity to get to know each other and make contacts. We would also like to use the chance on site, of course, to discuss various questions and of course also problems that are brought to us, and – wherever possible – to work out a solution together.
We announce the next date and the link for non-binding registration via our mailing list and on Instagram. You can't confirm in time or want to drop by spontaneously? No problem at all! But if you know in time, we look forward to your registration.
If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact us at any time – for example by email at referat-hiwis@uni-wuerzburg.de or via Instagram DM.
