For this, the so-called "First Meeting"is best suited. This always takes place at the beginning of every semester.
The aim is to introduce the Studi(o)bühne to new interested parties and to create new pieces.
The date of the First Meeting is announced towards the end of the semester break via the email distribution list, social media and this website. In recent years, the date has always been in the first or second week of the semester, at 8 p.m. in the Stadtmensa.
If you should have missed the advertising for the First Meeting and cannot find information either on our website or on social media, please feel free to email us: stuv-studiobuehne@uni-wuerzburg.de
What to expect in the individual areas can be found under Getting Involved.
You are not alone. There are many people who stand by your side in a production and support you in your work. What is important is: accept the help that is offered to you, and seek out support on your own initiative.
Through the following points, we would like to support you as best we can in your production:
- Your production will have a fixed point of contact from the organisation team, who is always available for questions and also works closely with your cast.
- We have developed a timeline which shows important milestones in the production process up to the performances. It can help you significantly with your planning. You will receive it from the organisation team.
- There is a large inspiration bible which shows you how you can structure your rehearsals in detail and work together with your cast. There you will find recommendations for team building, character work, voice training and much more. You will also receive this file from the organisation team.
- Do not be solely responsible for your piece: find yourself a directing assistant and/or an organiser. With two or three of you, a piece runs much better.
- Many people are involved in the Studi(o)bühne who already have a lot of experience with our organisation and have been involved for a long time. Do not hesitate to approach these people. As a community we support each other. The Studi(o)bühne lives from its many, committed and helpful members.
To ensure fairness and equality for both "established" and new actors, the following rule has been in effect since the summer semester 2018: „Große-Rollen-Regelung“ (large-roles rule). According to this rule, each person may only play one major/leading role in a single production per season. If there is any uncertainty about the importance of the role in the piece, the organising team may be consulted. However, it is still possible to engage in multiple productions in roles with smaller speaking parts or less stage time. The opportunity to participate creatively in multiple pieces through make-up, costume, set design, etc. naturally still exists.
Should a person nonetheless receive a "major role" in two pieces, they must choose one of the two roles.
The person directing a piece is equally subject to the Große-Rollen-Regelung. Alongside directing work, they may only take on supporting and ensemble roles.
The director may only take on acting duties in their own production in urgent and short-notice emergencies. This must be agreed with the department head beforehand.
Actors should appear on stage in a maximum of two pieces per season (e.g. one leading role and one supporting role). Small ensemble roles do not fall under this rule.
Charter of Studi(o)bühne
The Studi(o)bühne Charter was established in 2023. Its task is to provide greater transparency regarding organisational procedures and to set out clear structures and regulations within the Studi(o)bühne that everyone must adhere to.
It is important to us to be a place for all people, however diverse and different they may be. In this sense, the Charter is also a clear position paper and sets the priorities in the direction and self-understanding of our theatre.
The Student Parliament adopts the Charter and all of its amendments. This prevents passages from being changed arbitrarily. At the same time, the Charter legitimises the "Compendium", the main rulebook of the Studi(o)bühne.
As Studi(o)bühne, we are firmly committed to being a place of diverse and creative exchange. A place that welcomes all people who want to be part of our community and who wish to uphold our values, such as the spirit of Studi(o)bühne.
We are more than just a place for student theatre. We understand ourselves as a great social bond that represents a safe haven, a kind of home, for many of our members.
We cherish the desire to be tolerant and understanding with one another, to look beyond ourselves and to grow, to support others and not to isolate ourselves from the community in our own projects.
From us arises the responsibility to deal conscientiously with our work and our reach. We strive for our community and values understanding to be reflected outwardly through our productions and projects as well.
Article 1
The dignity of human beings is inviolable. Every human being possesses in their uniqueness precisely that dignity. We reject and combat any discrimination of people based on their membership of LGBTQIA, BIPoC or faith communities; the same applies to people with illness or disability, any language or origin, any gender or sexual orientation, any age and social status, affected by poverty, as well as political conviction.
We strive to ensure that every person receives equal opportunities and chances with us and that no one is disadvantaged based on the aforementioned points.
Article 2
The Studi(o)bühne enables every member to exercise their right to freedom of expression and is obliged to promote critical exchange within the department.
The department leadership commits itself to providing members of the Studi(o)bühne with platforms to engage in communicative exchange and to receive opinions and criticism. Censorship must not take place.
Article 3
We tolerate neither discrimination, racism, exclusion, insult, populism, provocation, nor incitement in our department.
Whoever furthermore questions the principle of equal treatment in any way and denies or violates the general rights and dignity of groups of people from Article 1 removes themselves of their own accord from the structures of the Studi(o)bühne Würzburg and is not a welcome part of the community.
Article 4
The Studi(o)bühne stands not only legally, but rather in its full solidarity and in its spirit behind the principles of equal treatment and human rights of the International Bill of Human Rights of the United Nations, the Basic Law of the Federal Republic of Germany, the Constitution of the Free State of Bavaria, as well as the regulations of the Universität Würzburg.
Article 5
Membership in Studi(o)bühne is free. Neither membership fees nor admission are required. Apart from being of legal age, there are no special requirements for participating in productions. It is not necessary to be enrolled at JMU, employed, or otherwise engaged.
Article 6
In the event of serious violation and non-compliance with our regulations, in particular our charter and our values as set out in Articles 1 to 4, the department head may, following a successful proposal in the Student Parliament, prohibit individuals from participating in events, rehearsals and general exchange with Studi(o)bühne. This also applies to attending our theatrical performances as part of the audience.
This measure may and must only be used as a last resort and carefully considered instrument to preserve and ensure community, internal peace and to protect other members. The department head bears the burden of proof in this regard.
Article 7
Studi(o)bühne is a department of Universität Würzburg and, with its structures, a sub-organisation of the Student representation of the JMU. As leadership, at least one person or a team must serve as department head with responsibility for the department, who is elected for one year by the Student Parliament and thereby democratically legitimised. A dual leadership is not mandatory, but is recommended.
Article 8
The aims of the department head are to strengthen community within Studi(o)bühne, to expand and support the theatre's diverse offering, to develop, promote and represent equality and education within the community to the outside world. Furthermore, to represent members of Studi(o)bühne in exchange with cooperation partners and external persons to the best of their knowledge and belief, as well as to improve the organisational structure of Studi(o)bühne, to simplify processes and to respond as best as possible to the problems and concerns of members.
Article 9
The department head has the right to be supported by an organising team in managing their organisational activities. This organising team can, together with the department head, plan and implement the design of Studi(o)bühne.
Responsibility for the actions, projects and statements of the organising team lies exclusively with the department head.
Article 10
Department head and organising team are bodies whose competencies, tasks and responsibility may lie exclusively in the interests of Studi(o)bühne Würzburg, its members, and the principles and responsibilities of the Student representation.
It is forbidden for the aforementioned bodies to serve their own personal interests through their office and to enrich themselves personally from it.
The department head and the organising team commit themselves to regard the Charter as the supreme maxim of their actions.
Article 11
Studi(o)bühne has contracts with various cooperation partners, which enable the existing structures and provide resources for creative work. The organising team, together with the department head, continuously checks whether agreements and conditions, including in the implementation by Studi(o)bühne members, are observed and adhered to.
Contracts and cooperations can be concluded exclusively through the Student representation and in consultation with the department head. Members of Studi(o)bühne do not have the right or possibility to change individual agreements or contents of cooperation contracts on their own initiative.
Article 12
Regulations disseminated by the organising team such as compendium, inductions into Fundi, technology as well as "Meet & Greets", "Check-Ins and -Outs" as well as production contracts are supported by the department head and are binding for Studi(o)bühne. Within the framework of these structures and at official events of Studi(o)bühne, instructions from the organising team must be followed.
Article 13
In the event of overstepping of competencies or abuse of office by the organising team, the department head must be informed immediately.
In the event of overstepping of competencies or abuse of office by the department head, the Student representation must be informed immediately; for a constructive vote of no confidence, the Student Parliament should be addressed.
Article 14
We are not a professional theatre. We do not aspire to be a professional theatre. We merely aspire to professionalise and further develop our organisational capacity and our structures so that people of all kinds have the opportunity to try themselves out creatively in Studi(o)bühne, to develop further and to participate in cultural programmes without barriers. So that Studi(o)bühne remains a place where amateurs find an artistic point of contact, where passion and joy in theatre are the focus. Not profit, not measuring ourselves against other theatre organisations and equally not elitist thinking from people who are familiar with the world of theatre.
We are a Studi(o)bühne for everyone. This fundamentally contradicts a professional theatre.
Article 15
This Charter and any adjustment or renewal must be supported by the Student Parliament. The department head cannot change it independently and without democratic legitimation from Parliament.

Theatre visit
There are certain groups of people for whom access to our information is made difficult. For them, seemingly obvious data and processes are hard to understand or obtain.
We want Studi(o)bühne to break down barriers. More people should be considered during their theatre visit. If you have any questions, problems or suggestions, we look forward to hearing from you. Please send an email to stuv-studiobuehne@uni-wuerzburg.deYou are also welcome to get in touch with us during our productions.
Admission to our events is free. As a rule, no tickets need to be reserved in advance. In exceptional cases, our productions explicitly indicate that advance reservation is required. Each production has its own description, which can be found under Pieces . Further information can be found on our flyers and posters.
As a rule, admission opens at 19:30. You will find the entrance at the main entrance of the Studentenhaus. The way to the Mensa hall is signposted there. Performances generally begin at 20:00.
Should there be any deviations in admission time and performance start time, as well as information on piece length and intervals within the piece, you will find all further details with the respective Pieces. The important information will be available on the website at the latest one week before the performance begins.
Unfortunately, our theatre is not fully accessible for wheelchair users. The theatre hall can be reached via a ramp. The toilets are only accessible by stairs. If you have individual requirements in this area, please contact us: stuv-studiobuehne@uni-wuerzburg.de
Seating is free choice. We reserve space for wheelchairs in the front row. If you cannot find a suitable space for your wheelchair, please speak to us on site. We will find a solution. Depending on the theatre production, the seating arrangement may vary. This does not affect the wheelchair spaces provided.
During performances, there may be various forms of sensory overload and triggers. These can be psychological (piece content, e.g. sexual/domestic violence, war) or physical (e.g. strobe lighting) triggers.
Our productions point out these triggers and stimuli immediately before performances. You will also find this information at the latest one week before the start of performances at the pieces.
In summer our hall heats up very strongly. Should you experience problems with intense heat and sweating, we must advise you against visiting our performances in the months of June and July.
There is a food and beverage sale. You can purchase pastries and cold drinks immediately before the production or during the interval.
We are a theatre run by students for everyone. You don't need formal evening wear to visit us. Wear whatever makes you feel comfortable. You'll find the theatre at "Am Studentenhaus 1", 97072 Würzburg. It's located directly next to the bus stop "Studentenhaus".
The Studentenhaus unfortunately has no direct car park for visitors. There is only a row of parking spaces to the right of the building. You'll find bicycle racks directly in front of the Studentenhaus.
You can bring your clothing items with you into the theatre auditorium to your seat. There is no cloakroom.
During the performance, you should remain relatively quiet so as not to disturb the rest of the audience. Furthermore, this allows the actors to concentrate better. Of course, you may laugh if you find something funny, or cry if you find something sad. Audience reactions are welcome, provided that no one is disturbed.
Applause during the performances is also welcome. This often occurs when the lights dim between individual scenes. The applause should fade away when the light becomes bright again or when text is being delivered on stage.
You may change your seating position and move about on your chair during the performance; this is not a problem.
Private conversations should be held before the play, during the interval or after the play. During the performance, these should cease. Quiet, brief whispering to the person sitting next to you is not a problem.
Most plays have a 15-minute interval in the middle. During the interval, you may remain in your seats, get some fresh air at the entrance door, move freely around the theatre auditorium, or purchase something to eat or drink at the sales stand.
If you wish to leave the performance during the show (for example, to use the toilet or take a break), you may do so. Please be mindful not to disturb other audience members. Bear in mind that the auditorium lighting is switched off during the performance. Your line of sight in the auditorium is restricted.
The entrance doors of the theatre cannot be opened from outside during performances. If you leave the theatre during the show, you will only be able to re-enter the auditorium during the interval or after the performance.
When the piece comes to an end, the house lights are switched back on. There is applause for the actors, the director and all people who have otherwise contributed. This applause can take several minutes. Afterwards there is a vote of thanks, which is delivered by a person involved in the production.
After the applause, the theatre can be left again via the main entrance. There is no request to leave the auditorium, you will not be checked. Make sure that you take your personal belongings home with you.
At the exit, actors are standing and collecting donations for the production. You are not obliged to donate. You should not feel uncomfortable if you do not donate. All donations are on a voluntary basis. No one will pressure you to make a donation.
