Student Health

You should be able to study healthily at Uni Würzburg. The Department of Student Health is committed to this: on campus, in support services and in the university's committees. This encompasses physical, mental and social health.

The Student Parliament established the Department in August 2025. It is one of the Departments of the SSR and shapes health with, for and by students. All students can get involved.

The Department does not provide counselling itself. If you are not feeling well at the moment, you will find services that can help you further down and on our Counselling page.

What we do

Have a say where decisions are made

When it comes to health, we represent your interests in university committees and working groups, with university management and the student services organisation.

Healthy Campus

Shade, rest areas, places to recover: we bring health into the planning of buildings, learning spaces and campus.

Find help faster

You should find suitable help quickly and without obstacles. This includes good overviews, information materials and campaigns.

By students for students

We want to strengthen offers by students for students, for example first responders for mental health crises.

Mindful learning

We want to promote mindfulness and self-organisation in learning, for example with workshops and digital offers.

Prevent addiction

Alcohol, nicotine, cannabis, gambling or video games: we make consumption and addiction a topic in student life and focus on prevention.

Together with the Healthy University

With the Healthy University, the university is setting up a health management system for all university members. The department is committed to ensuring that students have a say and participate in planning.

In the working group on student health, the department works with the Student Services Organisation, Central Study Advice, KIS, University Sports and ZBL. stuv also sits on the steering group of the Healthy University and in its working group on heat. More on this under Commissions and Advisory Boards.

In April 2026, the Student Parliament passed a mandate for shaded learning and recreational spaces. The SSR is to develop a concept for this with this department and the Department of Ecology and Sustainability. You can read about what stuv advocates for in terms of learning spaces, shade and heat under Learning Spaces.

Why meeting places belong to health

That the campus must be more than lecture halls is also said by others. The Joint Working Group of University Chancellors and Student Services has observed significantly more psychological strain since the Corona pandemic – isolation, withdrawal, exam anxiety – and recommends addressing this with meeting spaces. It is not just about buildings and areas, but about the social and cultural fabric (Campus Life of the Future, July 2026).

From a different perspective, the Science Council reaches the same conclusion: It recommends revitalising universities as social learning spaces – with personal support and more opportunities for exchange. That is why we have a say when decisions are made about spaces, shade and the quality of stay on campus.

If you're not doing well

These services can help you if you need support. In a mental health crisis, you can reach the Bavaria Crisis Service around the clock and free of charge on 0800 655 3000. In an emergency, dial 112.
