Room of Silence

On the 1st floor of the Mensa at Campus Hubland South there is now a Room of Silence. It is a space for mindfulness: for meditating and finding peace, for arriving and being, for taking a breath and switching off. A conscious break from university life, open to everyone. It is open as long as the Mensa building is open.

It is not a prayer room. However, because there is none at the university, you can also use it for silent prayers or devotions.

The room is still almost empty. We are currently furnishing it together with the Healthy University initiative at the university and in exchange with the Catholic University Community (KHG), which has three rooms next door. The room concept is non-denominational: the focus is on peace, not on religion. The room is looked after by the Department of Campus Life of the Student Government and by the Department of Student Health.

How the room should become

A place of peace

No conversations, no loud media. Here there is space for meditation, a conscious break or silent prayer.

Cosily furnished

Warm, dimmable lighting, carpet, cushions, blankets and yoga mats, plus plants that are tolerated by people with allergies.

Respectfully together

Remove shoes before the carpet, bring only water, tidy everything away again and take the rubbish with you.

Also together

Guided mindfulness exercises at set times, a bookshelf and a wall for messages to one another.
